The Switch Guide

Switch your cat from clay to tofu in 7 quiet days.

The #1 objection to any new litter is "will my cat use it?" — and 92% of cats accept NEKO on this schedule. Here's exactly how.

Days 1–275 / 25
1

Empty half the old litter and top up with NEKO. Your cat should barely notice — the ratio still smells like home.

Pro tip

Scoop as normal. Don't fully replace yet.

Days 3–450 / 50
2

Half and half. This is where most cats' curiosity flips into acceptance — the softer texture, the lighter feel.

Pro tip

If they hesitate, sprinkle a pinch of used clay on top for scent continuity.

Days 5–625 / 75
3

Mostly NEKO. You'll notice less dust when you pour, less tracking on the floor, and — most cats — the same confident routine.

Pro tip

Bump scoop-and-flush frequency; NEKO clumps hold together better than clay.

Day 70 / 100
4

Full NEKO. Your cat's on tofu — quietly, dramatically better. Refill roughly every 3–4 weeks per cat.

Pro tip

You can compost or flush* small amounts. *Check local plumbing rules.

What to watch for

Signs it's working — and what to do if it isn't.

Digging normally

The universal sign of acceptance. Deep scratches = box-approved.

Scooping cleanly

Tofu clumps hold their shape. If they crumble, you may have poured too shallow.

Less tracking

Pellets don't cling to paws the way clay grit does — expect a visibly cleaner floor by day 5.

Hesitating on day 1

Normal. Go back to 90/10 for two more days before increasing NEKO.

Going outside the box

Almost always the transition ratio, not NEKO itself. Slow it down and add a second box during transition.

Multi-cat holdouts

One cat converts, one resists? Run two boxes — one old, one new — until both are on NEKO, then merge.

Common questions

Answered so you can stop Googling.

How long does the switch usually take?

About 7 days for a confident single cat. Nervous cats or multi-cat homes might take 10–14 days. There's no rush — a slow transition is the one that sticks.

Do I need to buy a new litter box?

No. Any box you already use works. Just start with 5–7 cm of NEKO — the same depth you'd use with clay.

My cat hated the last litter I tried. Will this be different?

Most cats reject scented or crystal litters because of smell or texture. NEKO is unscented and soft, which matches their instinctive preference for soil-like substrates.
