Anatomy

Muscular, athletic, and long-limbed. Bengal paws are bigger than they look — narrow-grain litter jams between the toes.

Behavior at the box

Bengals treat the box like enrichment. Expect 30–60 seconds of vigorous excavation per visit. Dust plumes in enclosed rooms are a real issue.

Pick

  • Fast-clumping tofu with high starch binding — survives the fling.
  • Deep fill (4+ inches) so the digging doesn't hit metal.
  • Top-entry box or high-sided storage bin.

Avoid

  • ✗Loose, low-clump clay — turns to grey mud on the floor.
  • ✗Paper pellets — they scatter and don't clump.
  • ✗Shallow trays under 3 inches — you'll find litter in the kitchen.

Routine

Scoop twice daily. Top up mid-week. A 3-foot vinyl mat around the box is the difference between clean floors and constant sweeping.

FAQ

Are Bengals more sensitive to dust?

Not physiologically, but the amount of dust they generate through digging is dramatically higher. Low-dust substrate is a quality-of-life upgrade for the whole household.

Will a Bengal use a covered box?

Most won't. They dislike the ceiling on top of their zoomies.
